Jane Addams Homes

CHA Jane Addans Homes History

The Jane Addams Homes were the city's first public housing development. It was completed in 1938 as part of the federal Works Progress Administration, the program designed to create jobs during the Depression years.

They are in the process of being torn down. There has been talk of preserving one or two of the Addams buildings along with some of the animal sculptures on the site as part of a museum.

For more information on the animal sculptures check out this web site on WPA Art

The land will become new public housing.
